We purchased out furnace air conditioner through Fahrall in the summer. Tony came out to the house and was very helpful and knowledgeable. The... installers were in and out in one day. The house has never been cooler in the summer and the furnace is amazing. My only regret is not purchasing these units earlier.read more

I recently had a tankless water unit installed and I was very impressed by Dennis, the technician doing the installation. He and his assistant... finished the job the same day(not easy considering there was quite a bit of work to be done in the attic as well as the crawl space) and I have been enjoying my water heater ever since. He also noticed that my furnace had some issues and suggested that I have it inspected. Thanks to his suggestion, I had the furnace inspected by another technician from Fahrhall, Glen, and it is now running properly thanks to him! I would definitely recommend Fahrhall to anyone needing their services.read more

Service call for water leak from furnace. Turned out to be an installation issue where tape was omitted from a connection. Glen came out and... rectified the problem. At the same time he assisted me with some issues I was having with parameters on the thermostat. Glen was very professional in teaching a number of items about capabilities of the thermostat. It is way more functional than I imagined and he took the time to show me and make sure I understood. Initially we were told that it was recommended to keep the fan on at all times for circulation. What I did not know was that you could adjust the level of the blower on the fan. It is much more comfortable now that there is not so much cold air blowing through vents in between heating. On installation I was handed a book but sometimes it is easier to be shown than reading all the jargon of a manual. Thank you Glen for your professionalism, dedication to your work and your expertise!read more

Troubleshooting Your Gas Furnace

Before calling for emergency furnace repair, take a few moments to troubleshoot your gas furnace yourself. It could save you the cost of an emergency furnace service. Troubleshooting your gas furnace involves quickly checking a few things to confirm it’s truly an emergency.

If your furnace suddenly shuts down or won’t function, follow these steps:

  • Make sure the thermostat is set to HEAT
  • Confirm the thermostat is working properly
  • Check that all vents in your home are open
  • Inspect and replace your furnace filter if necessary
  • Look to see if the breaker for the furnace was tripped
  • For older furnaces, look to see that the pilot light is lit
  • Follow instructions on your furnace to relight the pilot lit if it’s out
  • Ensure the furnace gas valve is on and supplying gas to the pilot light

Once you’ve confirmed that none of these are the cause of your failing furnace, call our emergency furnace repair line.

Always call an HVAC professional when:

  • You smell gas – get out of your house and also call 9-1-1
  • You hear weird sounds coming from the furnace

Extreme Cold vs. Your Furnace

Canadians are familiar with extreme cold, and most homeowners know the effects of it on their heating system. When the first cold snap of the season occurs, Fahrhall is always flooded with calls for furnace service and repair. You, as the homeowner, can take measures to prevent problems with your furnace during cold snaps.

Prepare your furnace to fight freezing temperatures by:

  • Keeping your furnace filters clean
  • Replacing furnace filters as required
  • Clearing snow and ice away from intake pipe
  • Clearing snow and ice away from exhaust pipe
  • Caring for your furnace with annual maintenance

Keep Your Furnace Intake & Exhaust Pipes Clear of Snow

If you have a gas furnace, you also have two pipes on the exterior of your home – the intake pipe and the exhaust pipe. The intake pipe pulls in fresh air for combustion, while the exhaust pipe expels the byproduct of the heating process. You need to make sure that these pipes never become blocked

Before the snow falls, locate these pipes so you know where to clear the snow. After a big snowfall, shovel the area around these pipes carefully to remove all the snow and ice. It’s your responsibility to keep the intake and exhaust pipes clear of any obstructions. It’ll ensure your furnace operates smoothly.

Protect Your Furnace with a Fahrhall Protection Plan

Most homeowners don’t think about their heating systems much – until it fails on a cold winter’s night. As a homeowner, you must ensure you schedule annual preventative maintenance to keep your furnace in good working order. There are also other steps you can take to protect your furnace and prolong its lifespan, like removing snow and ice from around the unit and the exterior pipes. However, this doesn’t guarantee that you’ll never face furnace failure or breakdowns.

The best way to protect your furnace and your family is to invest in one of Fahrhall’s Furnace Protection Plans. There are 3 plans to choose from, and each one includes an annual inspection and a 15% discount on furnace repairs. There’s a plan for every budget and every need. A furnace protection plan will save you money and provide optimal protection for your furnace.

Other benefits of a Fahrhall Protection Plan include:

  • Up to 2 annual inspections FREE
  • Protects furnace and/or air conditioner
  • Priority services for members
  • Up to 2 FREE diagnostics visits
