AC Maintenance Tips for New Homeowners
- AC, Chatham, maintenance, Tips, Windsor
Buying a new home is one of the most exciting—and possibly overwhelming—events in a person’s life. For those that have spent the majority of their adult lives renting a condo or apartment, it can be intimidating to suddenly have to maintain a heating and cooling system. Don’t panic trying to get your air conditioner up and running for the warmer temperatures, just make sure to follow our new homeowner tips for AC maintenance.
Change the Air Filter
If you have a forced air furnace and central air conditioning, both systems likely use the same air filter. It’s important to regularly check and change the filter to prevent causing undue stress to the unit. Learn more about the importance of changing the filter and the different filter options available.
Clean Around the Condenser
An air conditioner is made up of two separate units—the indoor evaporator and the outdoor condenser. Over the winter, debris such as leaves and branches can collect around the outdoor condenser and affect how well the AC works. As part of your spring AC maintenance, make sure to clean around the condenser to allow sufficient airflow.
Schedule an AC Tune-Up
One of the most important AC maintenance tasks is to schedule a professional tune-up. A licensed technician will inspect and evaluate the system to ensure it’s running efficiently and safely. An annual inspection can also catch small problems early—which can be fixed before they turn into expensive repair bills.
Is your air conditioner still under warranty?
A cooling system that is still covered under a manufacturer warranty will likely require annual professional maintenance to maintain the warranty. Make sure you understand all the requirements to maintain the warranty and what information you need to transfer the warranty from the previous homeowner.
