Now that we’ve had a taste of the warmer weather, many of us are anxiously awaiting the summer sun. We want all of our customers’ cooling systems to be ready for the impending heat, so we’ve put together a list of air conditioner prep pointers to help you ensure your system won’t leave you hanging.
Check Your HVAC Filter
We say it every year, and we’ll continue to do so because changing your air filter is one of the most important and beneficial air conditioner prep steps you can take. Regardless of the time of year, we always suggest changing your HVAC filters at least every 90 days, or more frequently, depending on the number of people in your home or if you have pets. We also recommend changing your filters at the start of each new season, especially if you have allergies, to ensure that the allergens and dust from the previous season don’t carry over. Do yourself a favour and start this spring off with a clean slate by changing your HVAC filters.
Clean Around Your Unit
We recommend leaving all the technical tune-ups to the professionals, but there are a few things every homeowner can do to prep their air conditioner for the warmer weather. Once the snow has melted, be sure to visually inspect your air conditioner and clear away any leaves, sticks, and other debris that could work their way inside the unit. It’s also a good idea to trim back any unruly hedges and move any equipment or items you’ve been storing around your air conditioner that could encroach on the 2-3 foot perimeter your system needs to function properly.
Book Your Annual Maintenance
Although it’s great to take care of any air conditioner maintenance tasks you can, the only way to ensure your system is truly ready for the season ahead is to book your annual air conditioner maintenance appointment. A licensed technician can prep your air conditioner for the summer by cleaning the internal mechanisms, exchanging and repairing any damaged or worn parts, and completing a general tune-up on the system as a whole. Getting your annual maintenance done early ensures your system will run efficiently and effectively for the season ahead, but it also guarantees your warranty won’t lapse before its term is up.
