Common Furnace Mistakes to Avoid in the New Year
- furnace, heating, Tips, winter
With another year starting, it’s the perfect time to wipe the slate clean and start anew. Many people make resolutions to improve their lives and work hard on achieving their goals. As your home comfort specialists, Fahrhall would like to remind you of some common furnace mistakes homeowners make that can damage your heating system and ask that you resolve to treat your furnace better in 2018!
Avoiding Annual Inspections
One of the biggest furnace mistakes homeowners make is skipping annual inspections or only calling their home comfort specialists when something breaks. Scheduling yearly maintenance is extremely important for your home comfort, helping to ensure the longevity of your heating system and maintain any manufacturer warranties.
Forgetting Furnace Filter Maintenance
Many heating system problems begin with a neglected furnace filter. A dirty filter will quickly clog and restrict air flow throughout the system. This can cause your furnace to overheat and turn off. Repeatedly overheating the system can cause serious furnace problems and could lead to a systemwide breakdown.
Closing or Blocking Heat Registers
Some homeowners intentionally close heat registers to rooms they don’t use, or unintentionally obstruct registers with furniture or drapes. Either way, closing or blocking registers can cause a lot of damage to your furnace. HVAC systems are installed to work efficiently in the whole home, and restricting the airflow to certain areas can decrease home comfort and can actually damage your heating system.
We know that your heating system might not be at the top of your mind at the start of the new year, but furnaces are a big investment and it’s important that you’re not inadvertently causing harm to your system.
