Humidifiers VS. Dehumidifiers: What’s The Difference?
- Advice, air quality, dehumidifier, Energy Efficiency, Fahrhall, Home Comfort, humidifier, HVAC, HVAC System, HVAC Tips, Ontario, Tips, Windsor
The level of humidity in your home’s air contributes a great deal to your overall home comfort and the level of quality in the air you’re breathing. If your air is too humid you may feel overheated, nauseous, sweaty, or clammy. If your air is too dry, you may have headaches, a runny nose, and dry skin. Many homeowners in Windsor choose to install either a whole-home humidifier or dehumidifier depending on their needs, but when it comes to humidifiers vs dehumidifiers, what’s the difference? Which one do you need? Here’s what you need to know.
What Is A Humidifier?
A humidifier is exactly what it sounds like, it helps to humidify (add water into) your air to help create a more comfortable environment. Humidifiers are mostly only used in the winter, as Windsor winters become very dry and uncomfortable. During the winter, keeping your home at a healthy level of humidity will not only help you stay comfortable in the winter, but it will also help to prevent the spread of viruses during cold and flu season. When it comes to humidifiers vs dehumidifiers, a humidifier is meant for the winter months.
What Is A Dehumidifier?
Just as its name suggests, a dehumidifier helps to dehumidify (take water out of) your air to help create a more comfortable environment. Humidifiers are less common in Windsor homes as they’re primarily used in summer because summer is extremely humid, but your air conditioning system will usually dehumidify your air on its own without the need for help. If your home does not have central air conditioning, or if you have a moisture problem in your basement or garage, a whole-home dehumidifier may be the right choice for you. When it comes to humidifiers vs dehumidifiers, dehumidifiers are often less commonly used but not out of the possibility of home air care and maintenance.
