Spring has officially sprung and many of us Canadians are very excited for the warm weather to come. However, with the arrival of the warm weather comes the transition from heating to cooling, and whether you have a heat pump or a furnace and air conditioner, it’s smart to include prepping them for the season ahead in your spring cleaning checklist. Here’s what you need to do for a successful HVAC spring cleaning this year.
Change Your Filters
Both heat pumps and furnaces have filters that either need to be changed or cleaned once every 90 days. An essential part of spring cleaning for your HVAC systems is to ensure that your air filter is clean, fresh, and good to go. So, if you haven’t changed your filter in the past 90 days, make sure to do so now!
Give Your Air Conditioner A Test Run
During a warmer day where you don’t need your furnace, take the time to run your air conditioner to test and make sure it’s working properly. Run it for about an hour to allow it to cycle properly, and note any changes from last year including new sounds, smells, or behaviours. Make sure to note if it’s adequately cooling your home and call the experts at Fahrhall if you’ve noticed any malfunctions.
Check Your Outdoor Unit
If you’re turning on your air conditioner for the first time since the fall, you may want to include cleaning the outdoor unit as part of your HVAC spring cleaning list. When we say “clean” we don’t mean scrub it down with soap and water, we mean clean the area around the outdoor unit to free it from any branches, long grass, dirt, leaves, and other debris that may have accumulated there during the fall and winter.
Schedule Annual Preventative Maintenance
The most important and valuable thing you can do for your HVAC system spring cleaning is to call the experts at Fahrhall for an annual maintenance appointment if you haven’t done so already. During these appointments our expert technicians will clean your system and ensure that it is working as effectively and efficiently as possible, ensuring that your home is truly ready for spring!
