Perfect Indoor Temperature for a NYE Party

Many people fight about the temperature in their homes. Usually, there is one person that likes it a bit warmer and someone that prefers a cooler environment. This disagreement can balloon quickly when you add others to the mix and host a party. A legitimate (but often ignored) aspect of party planning is deciding upon the perfect indoor temperature.
Perfect Indoor Temperature
For most people, 21 degrees Celsius is the ideal indoor temperature. It’s not too cold where you need layers of clothes, but it’s also not too warm where you’d be uncomfortable in a light sweater. However, just because 21 degrees is the ideal temperature, it doesn’t mean that you should set your thermostat to 21 degrees on party day.
Guests Increase Ambient Temperature
Remember that as you welcome more people into your home, the temperature inside will rise. To prevent the space from getting too hot, always keep the thermostat lower than the temperature you want because, as your friends and family arrive, the temperature will slowly creep up. A number of factors will determine how low you should set your thermostat:
- The size of the space and the number of guests expected.
- The proximity of the main party area to any doors that could let cold air in.
- Planned activities—people dancing will warm up the space faster than if everyone is sitting around chatting.
- Amount of time the stove or oven will be on during the festivities.
For an average home with a modest number of guests, lowering your thermostat to 18 during the day of the party should help ensure everyone will be comfortable while ringing in the new year.
