Fahrhall Home Comfort Specialists has been in business for over 50 years and over that time our service technicians have seen a lot. At times, they’ve gone on a service repair call, only to discover that the homeowner has inadvertently caused damage to their furnace. Other times, an expensive repair has been caused by furnace neglect because the homeowner just didn’t know all the facts.
Make sure you can separate furnace facts from furnace myths and help keep your heating system running smoothly for years to come.
Furnace Fact or Furnace Myth: Furnace filters only have to be replaced once a year.
FURNACE MYTH! Furnace filters should be checked monthly and replaced as needed. Depending on the type of filter you’re using, the number of pets in the home and other factors—you might need to replace the filter every 30 days or only every six months.
Furnace Fact or Furnace Myth: Annual maintenance is required to keep warranties valid.
FURNACE FACT! Many manufacturers require yearly inspections by a certified professional to keep warranties valid. In addition, you might need to provide evidence of the annual tune-up, so be sure to keep a paper record of all work done on your heating system.
Furnace Fact or Furnace Myth: Furnaces only run in the winter.
FURNACE MYTH! In a central HVAC system, the furnace and air conditioner use the same air handler and filter—so technically your furnace is still in use during the summer when the air conditioner is on. This is also why it’s important to check your filter every month, not just in the winter.
Make sure you’re not accidentally harming your furnace by believing myths about your heating system.
