Summer Air Conditioner Preparation
- air conditioner, Chatham, maintenance, Ontario, Windsor
It’s finally summertime, and many people haven’t started up their air conditioners yet this year. If you fall into this category, don’t fret! You can still do the necessary air conditioner preparation that’s required before you start up your unit, and we’ve compiled some tips that you can do to your air conditioner so that you know that your unit will be there for you on the hottest of days!
There are a few things you can do yourself to prepare your unit for the summer months, but there are some others you’ll need to request professional service for. This is necessary so that you don’t do any significant, accidental damages to your unit that can result in costly repairs!
You can switch out or clean your air filters. They should be cleaned at least twice a year to ensure that your unit will not have to work extra hard to blow air through them and thus run inefficiently. Filters clogged with dirt recirculate dust throughout your home, which can lead to a number of other issues including poor indoor air quality and an increase in airborne allergens.
If you spot any debris around your unit, you can remove it. While your unit is powered off, use a vacuum and damp rag to remove gathered debris around your air conditioner and wipe away any dirt or grime from the fan blades.
Once you finish these steps, it’s time to call in a professional who will be able to check the condenser coils, coolant lines, coil drainage and replace or repair any damaged pipe insulation for your air conditioner preparation. You’ll want to call a professional for these checkups as they’ll be able to assess if these parts of your air conditioner have been damaged from use or from other outdoor elements, and make any repairs or adjustments before your unit runs continuously for the summer season.
Once your unit has been thoroughly checked over and you’ve been given the “all clear,” you can turn your unit on to see if it’s working properly. Wait for a hot day (which shouldn’t be hard!) and power it up, making sure cold air is blowing throughout your home steadily.
